I thought trainwreck impending until I saw that trailer. It is now basically one of the best video game movies, by leaps and bounds. The plot was a bit iffy for me but Ryan Reynolds as Pikachu and the rest of the pokemon were great. In the end, when Miguel sings to grandma Coco, I lose it. Full-on heavy ugly cry. The way they create the gravity of that moment. Then execute perfectly, is one of my favorite movie moments of all time. The first time I saw it was on an airplane. The whole thing was in Spanish with subtitles, which made sense at the time. I thought it would just be him shrinking down. I hate reading my movies, so I rarely watch foreign films, but this one had me hooked. On A Dark Desert Highway Cool Wind In My Hair Shirt learned that it was actually in English I watched it again. Then about a week before it showed in the theater. I had a gut feeling about it, slowly but surely I was convinced that maybe it could be good and I went to see it, just for the hell of it. Same here, had no idea what it was about. Ended up loving it and straight ugly crying through the credits. I hadn’t even heard of it or seen previews or anything, and my mom took me and my siblings to go see it. To this day, I think it’s in my top 20 favorite movies. And as a new dad myself, that movie has some golden father-son parenting advice.
